Alvinisms 400

"There are years that ask questions and years that answer."

-Zora Neale Hurston

Did you know: A quarter has 119 grooves on its edge; a dime has one less groove.

Thought of the day: So here is to ringing in the new year w/ new expectations, obstacles and rewards. Who knows what will happen on January 2nd or December 31st all I know is that Imma do it all w/ a smile cuz this year had its share of frumps but ya gotta take the good w/ the bad. So here's to a year and a million more sappy Alvinisms! Peace. Love. Faith.

"The world may take your reputation from you, but it cannot take your character."

-Emma Dunham Kelley

Did you know: I've been a getting some of my quotes from this all women's daily calender w/ empowering quotes from women.

Thought of the day: First off I gotta say that I really enjoyed Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber from Fleet Street. The music was awesome and the story was sooo twisted man! At times I was feeling sick and at times I wanted more but the whole time I was entertained and fascinated. For sure this film is not for everyone. It definitely is not for those who are weak in the stomach. But if you can appreciate some gore, some music, some darkness, and whole lot of twisted elements; this film is for you. Go watch it and let me know what you think.

On to lighter subjects.

Hmmm...It's time for everyone's new year's resolution and I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and am pretty good about sticking to it. Cutting chocolate out of my life or losing 10 pounds isn't something me or many people stick to, so I've come up w/ something thoughtful.

You know those things when you are in the grocery store checkout and you can donate $1, $5, or whatever amount? Yeah, well every time I go to the grocery store I'm going to donate at least one dollar. It may not seem much but at least I'm not looking at it then looking away now. Not sure how much it will add up to but I've donated $3 so far don't plan on stopping. Hope everyone sticks to theirs and has a great year to come. 1 more to the 400th Alvinism. Peace. Love. Faith.

"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well."

-Diane Ackerman

Did you know: Fortune cookies were invented in America, in 1918, by Charles Jung.

Thought of the day: The year is winding down and I wonder what is in store for next year: finishing my Montessori training, finally holding a job other than The Shop for a year, and I'm not sure what else. But one thing for sure is that I feel like I've taken major steps into becoming an independent grown up. Now its time to relish it, take it in and turn it into something. Yeah I'm always a big kid at heart but that doesn't change the fact that I want to pay a mortgage and live as freely as I want. Next year is might have some big plans and changes for me so we'll see. Ho well, don't really feel to heavy about the subject so we'll just leave it at that.

What the hell is up w/ this weather too? When do you need air conditioning during Christmastime and then you need the heater at night? This is just bananas. Peace. Love. Faith.

"We are made to persist. That's how we find out who we are."

-Tobias Wolff

Did you know: Snowboarding made its Olympics debut in Nagano, Japan in 1998. It returned to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City with 2 events, the halfpipe and parallel giant slalom.

Thought of the day: Post Christmas equals a quickie trip to Snow Summit w/ Apreezy, Steve, Erwin, Orrie and I. It was a fun quick trip that ended up in a small disaster for me.

It started off all fun w/ small jumps but at the bottom of one run there was spine that banked on the left. I never take spines that way. But for some reason I tried to get crazy air and overshot the bank and ended up on the flats...and on my arm and stomach. My left arm knocked all the wind out of me and I stood up and could not breath regularly for like a minute. After putting my hands on my head and just standing there my breaths became regular again. The whole time I was thinking to myself, "Shit, did I just break a rib? Good thing I have insurance now" But yeah, it was probably one of the if not THE worst spill I've taken.

Now that I'm home and all the adrenaline is gone, my left side of is numb and in some pain. Thank you to April who gave me 800 ml of Motrin to ease this awful feeling.

But you know what; in conjunction w/ the quote of the day. Even though I couldn't breath right and was partially numb and in pain I still rode a couple more runs and did a few more jumps w/ the crew cuz if I didn't I'd end up being scared the next time around. Ollie and I are already planning to go next week so if you wanna roll holla at ya boyz! Peace. Love. Faith.

Yeah, we're getting old and we need to stretch before we do anything.

Even the ball of energy Chimchan needs to reach for the toes.

Oh yeah, thats hot.

Thermals are the new Evisus.

Don't stare too hard! Hahahaha! These are still Mammoth pics.

"Outings are so much more fun when we can savor them through the children's eyes."

-Lawana Blackwell

Did you know: Every time you lick a stamp, you're consuming 1/10 of a calorie. (But who still licks stamps?

Thought of the day: Ah Christmas time, a time for family, fun and friends. This honestly has been the best Dec. of my 25 year life. I'll spare the details since it would take forever to explain how happy I've been these past few weeks and will continue to be. I hope all of you are finding comfort and happiness these holidays. Snowboarding tomorrow! Peace. Love. Faith.

The Mira Mesa Workshop got a surprise visit from Ron and Zion.

Ollie catch some air on a hidden jump we found. I spy Rhoda snapping some shots as well.

At some parts it was soo windy that the mountain was completely blowing away. It was beautiful.

This is the second day boarding crew: Orrie, Preez, Steve, Rhods, Jojo, Kimtan, and I. Sorry no newbs here!

Here I am casting a Shikamaru shadow and catching some air and grabbing hold of the sun. Yes I am talented. Baby jumps.

Someone had an idea to walk back up after we hit our hidden jump. It was not fun.

This is Jojobean before she did a somersault.

Nice snow mustache!

This is our hidden spot. Its almost a little halfpipe.

Kimtan! You're supposed to land parallel w/ the slope!

I'm never walking up in shin-knee high snow again.

Steve w/ a nice grab.

The men of Montessori: Mr. Allan and Mr. Alvin.

Toeside Steve.

Heelside Josie.

Preez trying to spray me.

Rhoda just before she stopped. Fun times!!!

"Family isn't about whose blood you have. It's about who you care about. "

-Trey Parker and Matt Stone

Did you know: There are 450 hairs in an average eyebrow. (I don't know about TJ though)

Thought of the day: So I spent Christmas Eve's Eve running around and anything from being home. It all started w/ waking up at Ollie's house farting in front of his mom to eating Cotijas and finally going home. But when I get there I find out TK and Eddie are going to the mall so I shower and get in my ride to see what's crackin. First stop of the day was Costco to buy cheap movie tickets and some white tee's for TK. Then some more munch munchs at In N' Out. On the way down Ollie chooses to join the party and so we stop at Mitsuwa and wait for him. Then we hit Fashion which was not packed at all.

Being the fatties we are we go to Old Town and chomp on some dank sushi at Miso Harney's before we meet up w/ more friends at Edwards Mira Mesa to watch Juno. Awesome movie, both funny and touching. So in the end I ate Mexican, American, and Japanese food all in one day. Time for some jogging or something.

Merry Christmas Eve friends. I hope all of you find happiness, peace, love, and whatever you're looking for this holiday. My prayers go out to all of you. Peace. Love. Faith.

Ollie lending a hand to Althea.

Kimtan lending a hand to April.

Steve lending a hand to Rhoda. Who says chivalry is dead. Us WBZ sure are helpful!

Wide open slopes make for a good time.

Lets go!!!

Wide open slopes also make it easy for newbies to learn too.

I spy Josephine and Erwin. Oh and that's call at the top. He was soooore.

Backcountry powder everwhere.

Our lone skier Allan.

This is close to the summit. It was fun to speed down and hop on the lift and then do it again.

Maybe I'm short but this repair station was tall as hell!

Uh oh! Sun is going down time to squeeze in more runs.

BTW, I boarded barefoot cuz the socks I borrowed were so thick it hurt my feet.

The new snowbabies.

The new look of Mammoth.

What else do we do away from home and place to stay.

Say hello to Hitler snowman.

We ran his ass in half. Racism is bad.

"Only me knows what this is!"

-I said this when I received my chess timer from my Secret Santa. Thanks Stank!

Did you know: This has been by far one of the best birthdays and Christmas' I've ever had!

Thought of the day: Oh man, just got home from Ollie's at like 1:30 in the afternoon after a night of dirty cookies and beer. Don't remember much but remember that I gad a blast for the part that I was awake. Pretty sure everyone else did too judging by how many people were throwing up, at least 5. My Secret Santa was Christine aka Stank and she hooked it up! Thanks mama! She bought me a chess timer, which of course only I would appreciate, and a bunch of other stuff that was on my list! And to top it off, she gave me Tajima money (only for use at Tajima) cuz she knows its my favy favorites! Thanks Stankers for being and awesome friend and Secret Santa. More pictures to come from the party so we'll continue w/ more Mammoth shots. Peace. Love. Faith.

Want to be a x-ray technician?

Evan sent me this site and I took it as if it were a life or death situation. How did you do? I seriously wanna know. Ha!

Cal was all smiles before the trip started...6 hours later he was sore and worn out.

Erwin can rip and shred. And then rip and rip and get ripped.

Rhoda is bilingual. Oh my God Friday night was Espanol night.

Her partner in Espanol crime was Jojobean aka Dukes.

Our car ride. I drive up then Preez. Kimtan drives down then Ollie. We had a system.

This ride musta been all gossip and singing. Three girls and then Steve.

This bearbrick has Elvis' shape too.

This is one sharpener that I can't have in my classroom.

I could've used this in Mammoth. Snowballs can be hard to make man!
